Compliance assessment
Whether you're a pharmaceutical distributor, packager or fabricator, you need to have a self-inspection program in place to comply with the Food and Drugs Act (FDA). The self-inspection program is designed to ensure that your manufacturing facility adheres to good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and to identify problems that can lead to FDA violations. A third-party audit can help you gain added confidence from regulatory authorityies and give you added assurance that your facility is operating as per regulatory guidelines.
If you're importing equipment, you need to ensure that each lot of equipment comes with a certificate of analysis. This certificate must indicate the name of the laboratory that performed the tests, the test method, and the specific product specifications. The lab contact information is also included. The certificate must also show actual numerical results from each test.
Inspection and testing procedures
Regardless of whether you manufacture your own products or sell to others, you need to follow inspection and testing procedures to ensure the safety of your products. The testing and inspection process outlined in ISO 9001 is designed to verify that your products meet the requirements of the standard.
Testing and inspections is geared to the specific characteristics of a product. They may include measurement, audits, and physical tests. Often, a manufacturer and supplier will agree on acceptable tolerance levels during the development of a product. These tolerances can vary from product to product.
